The most compact 11-tonne electric horizontal drilling rig
With the TERRA-JET DJ 23e, TERRA brings the benefits of electric drive to the 11-metric-tonne class of horizontal directional drilling. TERRA’s e-line stands for forward-looking technology, high efficiency and low-emission operation. The DJ 23e features a powerful electro-hydraulic drive system with a thrust and pull force of 110 kN (11 t), a torque of 4,000 Nm and a spindle speed of up to 285 rpm. At the heart of the electric drive concept is a high-performance 69 kWh battery combined with an integrated power distribution unit. The hydraulic functions are driven efficiently by electric power. As a result, the machine operates particularly quietly and with zero local emissions. The electric drive reduces energy consumption and maintenance requirements compared with conventional diesel-hydraulic drives. At the same time, the DJ 23e offers the proven performance and flexibility of a TERRA horizontal drilling rig.

A 360 kg battery is fitted to the DJ 23e. It is water-cooled and has a capacity of 69 kWh. The battery, including the cells, is manufactured in Europe. With this battery configuration, under typical HDD average loads, the machine can operate autonomously on battery power for a few hours, or for a full day whilst connected to the mains at 400 VAC with 64 A (connected load 44 kW). The battery absorbs peak loads > 44 kW up to the defined maximum power of the electric motor (75 kW) for the directly mounted hydraulic pump. The mains supply is not affected by peak shaving.

69 kWh battery with peak shaving
The water-cooled 69 kWh battery provides additional power during peak loads of up to 75 kW. This means that peak loads in excess of 44 kW are fully absorbed by the battery – without placing any additional strain on the electricity grid.
All-day operation with mains connection
With a mains connection of 400 V / 64 A (44 kW connected load), the combination of battery and mains operation allows for a full working day. Under average HDD load, the DJ 23e can also operate autonomously for several hours.
European battery technology
The 360 kg, water-cooled battery with a capacity of 69 kWh is manufactured in Europe, including the battery cells. This ensures short supply chains, high quality standards and future-oriented drive technology.
